Scientific Name: Agulla sp.
Common Name: (a snakefly)
Family: Raphidiidae
Description: A male snakefly, Agulla sp., on Red Brome, in the coastal sage scrub area west of the entrance drive. You can tell this is a male because female snakeflies have a very long and noticeable ovipositor at the end of the abdomen. These insects could be found on any plant where there is likely prey -- small, soft-bodied insects (e.g., aphids).
Photographed 10 April 2010.
