Become a BFF of the BFS – Volunteer at the Bernard Field Station!

Please join us to help maintain, improve, and study the unique ecological resources of the Bernard Field Station! During the academic year, we hold volunteer work days on the first and third Saturday of every month to remove introduced weeds and invasive brush, clear trails, assist with ecological monitoring, and carry out other activities that facilitate study and research at the field station. We invite all who care about our local environment to join us. No experience is needed! Because access to the BFS is restricted, volunteering is a great way to visit the BFS and learn more about the field station while helping out.

Meet at the main BFS entrance on Foothill Blvd at 10:00 AM on the workday. Wear long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, and closed-toed shoes. Instructions, tools, and supplies will be provided, but it’s a good idea to bring water and sunscreen. If you plan to bring a group larger than a half dozen or so, we ask that you contact the Volunteer Coordinator ahead of time to be sure that the work planned can accommodate a large number of volunteers and that we have plenty of supplies on hand. We will provide lunch after the work is finished!

Please note:
Volunteers who are not Claremont Colleges employees or students must sign a waiver of liability. Waivers for minors need to be signed by a parent or legal guardian. You may download the appropriate form, sign it, and bring it with you. We will also have forms available when volunteers arrive.

You can see previous volunteer workdays in our BFS blog – just click on the “volunteers” tag.
